Jesus Seeks in order to Save
See the previous devotionals this week for the story of Zaccheus.
(NASB) Luke 19:9 “And Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is a son of Abraham.”
Who was Abraham? He was the first Hebrew way back in Genesis 11:27-32; 12:1-3.
Abraham lived by faith in the living God and he was credited (justified) as being righteous from God’s point of view. (Genesis 15:6)
In the New Testament Paul stated:
(NIV) Romans 1:16-17 “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes; first for the Jew, then also for the Gentile. 17For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’”
A changed life results when a person turns to Jesus,
and believes by asking Jesus into their heart, their life, their home.
What are some facts concerning salvation which can be ascertained from the true story of Zaccheus?
1- Zaccheus gladly received Jesus into his heart, life and home.
2- Zaccheus promised to give half of his wealth to the poor – changed focus.
3- Zaccheus (who was Jewish) became a spiritual son of Abraham by believing in Jesus; thus choosing to live by faith in the Lord Jesus.
How did Jesus respond to Zaccheus’ decision?
(NASB) Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Zaccheus was singled out by Jesus – He was seeking Zaccheus and He had come to save him for everlasting life in the presence of God.
Jesus is still seeking, He is still looking for those who are lost.
Jesus is still willing to save all who turn to Him by faith, to be saved.
Jesus Seeks (you) in order to Save (you)
Now, now is the day for salvation to come to your house, your life, your heart.
