Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem and he passed through the town of Jericho.
(NASB) Luke 19:1-4 “HE ENTERED Jericho and was passing through.
2 And there was a man called by the name of Zaccheus; he was a chief tax collector and he was rich.
3 Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was, and was unable because of the crowd, for he was small in stature.
4 So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree in order to see Him, for He was about to pass through that way.”

What do these four verses tell us about Zaccheus?
First – his name.
Second – his occupation, a chief tax collector.  He was successful in business; he had risen to one of the top positions.
Third – his wealth, for he was rich.
Fourth – his height, “he was small in stature.”  (This is an important fact to this event, otherwise how tall or small one is, is not important!)
Fifth – he was a determined man.  He did not let circumstances deter him from his goal.
Sixth – he did not let his height, or lack of it, keep him from seeing Jesus.
Seventh – he used ingenuity to gain his goal.  He ran ahead after making a correct assessment of where Jesus was going to be.
Eighth – he did not let pride of position or wealth keep him from seeing who Jesus was.

Perhaps you can find other things about Zaccheus from these four verses.  Using these eight facts, join me in applying them to our lives.

One – you have a name.
Two – you have a means of making a living, of some kind.
Three – you may not be wealthy or even ‘well-to-do’ but you have some means to live.
Four – you have height of some kind.
Five – are you a determined person not letting circumstances dictate to you to reach your goal?  And what is your goal; is it “to see who Jesus” is?
Six – do you use your height, or any other physical condition, as an excuse for not being where you can be to “see Jesus”?
Seven – how do you gain your goals?  Do you use honesty and ingenuity?  Do you make a correct assessment of where you can “see Jesus” as He really is?
Eight – what is keeping you from seeing Who Jesus really is?  Is it pride, or stubborn resistance, or bitterness or resentment or …what is keeping you from doing what is needed “to see who Jesus” is?

‘Open my eyes, Lord, I want to see Jesus as He really is!’
