“What do you want Me to do for you?”
A blind man was sitting on the roadside leading into Jericho. Jesus was walking by with a large crowd around Him. After finding out what was going on, the man yelled out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” When the man was told to “hush”, he did not, but yelled louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Luke 18:38, 39)
(NASB) Luke 18:40 “And Jesus stopped and commanded that he be brought to Him; and when he came near, He questioned him,
41 ‘What do you want Me to do for you?’…”
What an important question as was the immediate response of the blind man.
That same question can be asked of you by Jesus, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
What is your response to that question? It could be, ‘I’m blind to what I do wrong. I’m blind to my words and attitude which hurts others. What do I want You do for me? Why, nothing. I am content to be blind.’
No, no, no! That is not what I want to say in this moment in this day! How about you?
My response could be: ‘Lord, show me my sins. I want to have sight to see so I can ask Your forgiveness. I want to see “me” as You see “me”. I want sight so I won’t continue to hurt or cause others to stumble by my blind words and actions.
I do not want to delude myself by continuing to give myself excuses or ‘an out’ for how I think. Help me, Lord, I want to receive my sight from You!’
What was the response of the blind man?
(NASB) Luke 18: 41 “…And he said, ‘Lord, I want to regain my sight!’
And what did Jesus do? He didn’t “do” anything but what He said was life-changing!
(NASB) Luke 18:42 “And Jesus said to him, ‘Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.’”
The blind man was healed, he was given sight, all because he believed Jesus. His faith was in the power of Jesus to heal him. What about your faith? Do you believe that Jesus is willing to heal you of your blindnesses?
How did the blind man respond? And how do you respond?
(NASB) Luke 18:43 “Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him, glorifying God; and when all the people saw it, they gave praise to God.”
Immediately the blind man could see! Immediately this healed man began following Jesus. Immediately this blessed man glorified God by recognizing Him, praising Him and honoring Him! immediately all the people present praised God.
How shall you now pray?
