“all things…will be accomplished…”
(NASB) Luke 18:31-34 “Then He (Jesus) took the twelve aside and said to them, ‘Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things which are written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished.
32 ‘For He will be handed over to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and mistreated and spit upon,
33 and after they have scourged Him, they will kill Him; and the third day He will rise again.”
Jesus clearly stated truth, God’s prophesied truth, about Messiah and what would take place in the near future in Jerusalem.
Jesus foretold (prophesied) what would happen to Him in Jerusalem:
Handed over to the Gentiles (In order to be crucified as prophesied in Psalm 22 & Isaiah 53, Jesus would have had to be “handed over to the Gentiles”, for the Jews executed criminals by stoning.)
Mocked: Isaiah 50:6
Mistreated Isaiah 50:6
Spit upon Isaiah 50:6
Scourged (flogged) Isaiah 53:5
Killed Psalm 22:16-18; Isaiah 53:4-7 (Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53 describe the horror of crucifixion – both David, who wrote Psalm 22, and Isaiah, did not know of crucifixion.)
Resurrected the third day after His death Psalm 16:10
All these things were known by Jesus; yet, He steadfastly kept traveling to Jerusalem.
Jesus had been sent by His Father to overcome, overpower and have the victory over death, over Satan and over your sins. This is why everyone needs to have Jesus as their Advocate, Defender and Savior. There is no one else, no one, who can plead your case before God the Father and have you freed from the just judgment of your sins. Jesus has taken all of your sins on Himself and He has taken your just punishment. This is why we are to ask Him to save us – there is no one else. Have you thanked Him?
All these things were accomplished — in Jerusalem — by Jesus on the cross. Followers of Christ call this Easter. For there from a “stone cold tomb” Jesus rose from the dead. He was resurrected after accomplishing all these things – for you!
All these things were accomplished by Jesus and our part? Each one is to ask Him to be Savior and Lord. To believe in our hearts that God has raised Him from the dead, that He is indeed physically alive. That’s it. (Romans 10:9-10)
Pride and pre-formed ideas keep people back from asking Jesus into their hearts and receiving His salvation.
As we walk in this day toward the celebration of Easter we can know that:
“all things…will be accomplished…”
