The Unexpectedness of Jesus’ Return
In the days of Noah…people were eating, drinking, and marrying. Then…the Lord God told Noah to enter the ark with his family and all those animals. God shut him in. (Genesis 7:16)
Then…the flood came and destroyed everything and everyone outside the ark. (Luke 17:26-27)
In the days of Lot…(hundreds of years later) people were drinking and eating, buying and selling, planting and building. Then…the Lord had an angel take Lot and his wife and two daughters out of the city of Sodom. (The two sons-in-law thought he was joking. Genesis 19:14)
Then…it rained fire and brimstone on Sodom and Gomorrah and destroyed all those who had not left those cities. (Luke 17:28-29)
When will it be too late to be saved by God’s grace through belief in Jesus Christ as Savior?
(NASB) Luke 17:30 “It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed.”
What do people have today that the people in the days of Noah and in the days of Lot had? Opportunity!
Everyone has the opportunity to turn to the LORD by faith recognizing their need of God’s forgiveness through His only Begotten Son…Christ Jesus. All of us need to be forgiven of our sins. All of us need to be saved from our sins and saved from the wrath of God against our sins.
But the time will come when it is too late, and just as the door was shut in the ark and certain judgment came on Sodom, so will your opportunity to repent.
Jesus is coming when we least expect Him…are you ready?
Who do you know who needs to be warned so they too can make their choice?
Our choices of belief (or unbelief) in God and His Son do affect our eternity.
