Jesus was under hostile scrutiny of Pharisees, scribes and religious lawyers.  On this occasion, thousands of people were gathered to hear Jesus…to be healed by Jesus.  The crowd was so big and so compact that they were stepping on each other. (Luke 12:1)

What did Jesus do “Under these circumstances”?  Why, nothing.  He apparently did not try to control that crowd.  Perhaps you have seen or even been in such a crowd…one example is Times Square in New York City on New Year’s Eve.  People in that friendly crowd expect to be jostled and choose to ignore the inconveniences.  Perhaps that is the kind of crowd surrounding Jesus and His disciples.

Jesus had just been chastising the religious lawyers and then He chose that time to teach His disciples about hypocrisy.
(NASB) Luke 12:2-3 “…‘Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
2 ‘But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.
3 ‘Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops.”

Beware of the hypocrisy of others.
Beware of practicing hypocrisy; it is not being loyal, nor being a true friend.

Hypocrisy is the practice of dishonesty.

Anything that is covered up will be revealed and anything that is hidden will be exposed, made known…Jesus said so!
Jesus used sharp, vivid contrasts: dark and light, inner rooms and housetops.

Why is hypocrisy not a good thing to practice?  You and I will be found out.
Where in your relationships do you need to turn from hypocrisy?
To whom do you need to choose to be a loyal friend?

Hypocrisy Will Be Exposed
