Jesus stated a fact as an illustration, a word picture.
(NASB) Luke 11:33 “No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar or under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.”

Many times an eye doctor can detect an unhealthy body when they examine a person’s eyes.  And Jesus used the eye as the lamp of the body in giving out a spiritual truth.
(NASB) Luke 11:34-36 “The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness.
35 ‘Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness.
36 ‘If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays.’”

Perhaps we could consider this: spiritually…when your thinking is in line with God’s words…you have a healthy life and it is full of light.
But when motives, thinking, words and actions are in opposition to God Himself – your life will be unhealthy…because of sinning against God.
Without Christ, we are without hope…many times people without God in their lives are frantically finding ways to be healthier, wealthier, happier, etc.

What your life is – your motives, thoughts, words and actions are like the lamp Jesus is talking about.  If you are filled with the light of Christ within (you have received Him as your Savior) your life will show that!

Jesus warned people about the darkness within…He said “watch out.”
God’s love does that, He warns us of the consequences of our choices.  He also holds out the promises of belief in His Son.
Your spiritual life shows in your actions, words and motives.  How is your spiritual life according to God’s words?

A possible prayer: ‘O Lord, that Your word would show me where Your light needs to shine in me and where I need to take the next step!  In the name of Jesus, Amen.’

(NASB) Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.”

How is your spiritual eyesight?
