The Real Question
A learned man, a lawyer, tested Jesus by asking Him a question.
(NASB) Luke 10:25 “…‘Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?’”
Jesus was the consummate Teacher for He answered with a question.
(NASB) Luke 10:26 “…‘What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?’”
This man’s knowledge of God’s word was not lacking, He knew the written word of God.
Before the man asked the question of Jesus, he knew the answer! And Jesus knew that the man knew.
Testing…testing…and isn’t it interesting…the real question was the one Jesus asked the man!
“What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?”
Perhaps you think, ‘I don’t know the Bible that well… That would not be a fair question to ask of me.’ If you are reading this devotional then you can read God’s word for yourself. You can also ask God to help you understand what He has given for you to read.
[If you are living in a country in which the Holy Bible is illegal, God is God and ask Him for His way of giving you understanding.]
What is written in God’s word? How does it read to you? And after reading it, what will you do? You will have two choices…to ignore it (for whatever reasons you come up with) or you will believe God’s words which are true and act upon them.
Either response to God’s words require you to action…ignoring or doing…your choice.
So the real question which Jesus asked of that lawyer could also be asked of you:
“What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?”
What are you doing with God’s word this moment?
Accepting it as truth or rejecting it?
The real question: “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?”
