Seventy men excitedly told Jesus “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”  (NASB Luke 10:17)

And Jesus replied, “I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning.”
(NASB Luke 10:18)
Jesus was there!  He personally saw Satan fall from heaven – quickly, like a bolt of lightning, like a lightning flash, seeable and gone in seconds…so Satan fell.

For what reason did Satan fall from heaven?
Pride!…caused his desire to be like God and have His position of power!

(KJV) Isaiah 14:12-15 “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!  how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds: I will be like the Most High.”

How was Satan thrown down from heaven?
(NIV) Revelation 12:7-9 “And there was war in heaven.  Michael and his angels fought against the dragon (Satan), and the dragon and his angels fought back.  8But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.  9The great dragon was hurled down – that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray.  He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.”

God provided the promise of Messiah to defeat Satan, death and sin at the time of the first sin in the Garden of Eden.  (Genesis 3:1-19)

How does this affect people today?  We may be deceived, deluded, even defeated when we succumb to temptations placed in our paths…however, when we have faith in Christ Jesus as our Savior, it is His power and work on the cross which gives victory.

(NASB) 1 John 5:4 “For whatever is born of God, overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.”

(NASB) Romans 8:31 “What then shall we say to these things?  If God is for us, who is against us?”

(NASB) Romans 8:35 “Who will separate us from the love of Christ?  Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?”

(NASB) Romans 8:37-39 “But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Followers of Christ have no need to fear Satan…our God is greater!
