Come to Think About It
(NASB) Luke 9:57-58 “As they (Jesus and His disciples) were going along the road, someone said to Him, ‘I will follow You wherever You go.’
58 And Jesus said to him, ‘The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.’
Come to Think About It
Jesus, once He left His home in Nazareth, He never did have His own home to go to.
He made His headquarters in Galilee in the city of Capernaum…we know He stayed with Peter. A favorite stop in Judea was in Bethany where He stayed with Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.
Animals and birds have a home, a place to raise their young. In contrast the Son of God had no place He called home.
Can you imagine having no home, not even a room to call your own; all because of following Jesus?
Come to Think About It
What did that well-meaning person say to Jesus? “‘I will follow You wherever You go.’”
Really? Wherever Jesus goes, “I will follow?” Even into the unknown, even to the cross?
It is easy to say “I will follow You Jesus” in the excitement of a spiritual retreat, a mountain-top experience, an inspiring sermon, or even in your daily reading God’s words.
Jesus knows that to follow Him will mean sacrificial living, full commitment to rely on Him, to depend upon Him fully…wherever He chooses for you to go.
(Amplified Bible) Luke 9:23 “…‘If any person wills to come after Me, let him deny himself [disown himself, forget, lose sight of himself and his own interests, refuse and give up himself] and take up his cross daily and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to my example in living and, if need be in dying also].”
Come to Think About It
Jesus had purposely turned His face toward Jerusalem…His feet were going down that path toward the cross.
Like the disciples…you and I have no idea, none, nada, zilch, where Jesus has in mind for us to go…are we really ready to follow Him…wherever He leads?
Come to Think About It – following Jesus is a commitment to Him because He commits Himself to you (and me)…it is His strength, His mercy, His grace, His love, His reliability to take us to our true home…heaven is waiting for us. There is where our true home is, there is where we will be fully the person God has created us to be…joyfully and with thanksgiving to our God Who will lead us there, to Himself through faith in Jesus Christ.
