Perverted: “Deviating greatly from what is considered right and correct.”  “Misinterpreted; misconstrued.”

Jesus pointedly used “perverted generation” in describing the crowd that waited for Him at the bottom of the mountain.
(NASB) Luke 9:41 “And Jesus answered and said, ‘You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you and put up with you?  Bring your son here.’”

Unbelief and perverting God’s word is not taken lightly by the Lord.  Jesus said this to a Jewish crowd.  A crowd waiting for Him to give healing to those in need.

Today, it is not politically correct to be harsh assessing another’s beliefs.  Yet, Jesus used harsh words in assessing that crowd.
How would Jesus assess you and your belief today?  Would He say you have deviated greatly from what God considers right and correct?  Would He say that you have misinterpreted or misconstrued God’s words?

A harsh assessment and one which you and I need to consider.  How do we think of God’s words?  Do we treat His words (the Holy Bible) lightly?  Even brush them off as not relevant in our lives today?
Perhaps you hear, as I have, that all people will go to heaven, all will turn to God at some point…is that really what God’s word says?  I don’t think so!  Consider these verses:

(NIV) John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”

Clearly, unbelief is judged and will be condemned for not believing in God’s one and only Son; and unbelief will have consequences eternally.
Each unbelieving person will be judged by God…they will be judged and they will not spend eternity in the presence of God.

It is only through belief in Jesus as the Son of God that anyone cannot die in their sins:
(NASB) John 8:23-24 “And He was saying to them, ‘You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world.
24 ‘Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

It is only through belief in Jesus as the Son of God that anyone can enter heaven: (NASB) John 3:5 “Jesus answered (Nicodemus) ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”

So!  What are you doing with the words of God as you read them, is your faith in the Lord Jesus growing and maturing through belief in God’s words of truth?
Or, are you among the “unbelieving and perverted generation?”
