Worship of Jesus Alone
Jesus, Peter, John and James had gone up a mountain to pray. There Jesus was transfigured and there Moses and Elijah came to talk with Him. (Luke 9:28-32)
Peter, dear Peter, impetuous Peter, Peter who sometimes engaged his mouth before engaging his brain said: “‘Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles: one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah’ – not realizing what he was saying.”
(NASB Luke 9:33)
Peter did not think through what he said, he just said it. Peter didn’t want that moment to be lost; he probably didn’t want to leave Jesus and His glory. He wanted to be able to come back to that place in the future.
What if three tabernacles had been built on that very spot on that very mountain?
1- Jesus had not come to have a shrine built in which to worship Him.
2- Moses and Elijah were not to be worshiped – they were men! True, they were men of God, but they were not to be revered or worshiped as gods!
3- When anyone has a “mountain-top experience”…we do not like leaving and going back into the reality of life at the bottom of the mountain.
Followers of Christ are not limited to where we can worship the Lord Jesus Christ!
Churches, cathedrals are some places built to do that very act, but we can also worship on a hillside, on a beach, even in a room. Jesus Christ can be bowed down to and worshiped anywhere, for He is the Living Lord Who was resurrected from the grave.
Followers of Christ are to pray in the name of Jesus and we are not to use any other name with which we are to worship.
We are not to worship or pray to people as if they were God! God alone is to receive that honor.
Praying in the name of Jesus is to recognize His power and authority. He is All-powerful (Omnipotent), He is All-knowing (Omniscient), He is Everywhere present (Omnipresent).
No matter where we live…Jesus is with His followers…we are not alone.
What a blessing to Worship Jesus Christ and Him only as we walk through each day!!
