In at least two instances, Jesus went up a mountain to pray…for a special purpose.

When He chose twelve men to become His apostles (to be His close circle), He prayed all night…on a mountain…alone.  (Luke 6:12-13)

He prayed and aligned Himself with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit…they were in unity, in Oneness of thought for God’s purposes to be accomplished.

Now another time is seen as Scripture tells us that Jesus took along Peter, John and James and they went up a mountain to pray.
(Luke 9:28)

What times do you pray?  Perhaps you say you are in prayer continually.  That is good.  However, do you intentionally set aside time to be in the conscious presence of God?  Do you go apart, by yourself with your Bible (and perhaps a pen/pencil and a pad of paper) to be alone with God Himself?

You may wonder, ‘Where do I start?  One place you could start is by reading one of the Psalms.  And as you read, look for the names and character of God.  Perhaps jot them down.  Then you could pray and praise God for Who He is from what you have just read.

You may not live close to a mountain, but you may have a place out of doors you enjoy, or a room in your home where you can be alone with God.  Just think, you too can go ‘up a mountain to pray’ because you are seeking to spend time alone with the living God of the Holy Bible!

Some Psalms you may want to choose from: Psalm 1; Psalm 23; Psalm 27; Psalm 32; Psalm 121; Psalm 91; Psalm 100.  As you read the Psalms you may find others which speak to you.

(NASB) Psalm 91:1-2 “HE WHO dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust!’”
[Trust could be defined as ‘to lean my full weight on’ the LORD!]

When was the last time you Went Up a Mountain to Pray?
