Logical Conclusions
It had been a busy day for Jesus; His twelve disciples had returned after a mission trip in Israel…they had much to report to their Teacher. And He had led them away from the crowds to give them some R & R…but it didn’t happen. The crowds followed and Jesus welcomed them, taught them about the kingdom of God and cured those who were ill.
The day was ending and the twelve approached Jesus as the setting sun cast long shadows over the crowd. (Luke 9:1-12)
The disciples saw the need of the people in this place that was desolate…there weren’t any motels in existence, nor fast food restaurants. Today, people would get into their cars, on their motorcycles or bicycles and take off. Not so in those days when walking was the mode of transportation.
The disciples came to a logical conclusion:
(NASB) Luke 9:12 “…‘Send the crowd away, that they may go into the surrounding villages and countryside and find lodging and get something to eat; for here we are in a desolate place.’”
What logical conclusions do you come to in your circumstances? What do you assume is true for you, even from a godly perspective?
Logical conclusions and fair assumptions may not be God’s surprising answer in your circumstances.
Next week this devotional will consider this true story and Jesus’ surprising response to His disciples ‘logic’.
As you and I live out each day, do we continue to cling to our own logic and assumptions?
What does God have to say?
(NASB) Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.”
Are you trusting Him or depending on your own logic?
