Jesus was on His way with a grieving father whose twelve year old daughter was dying.  There were many people crowding Him, pressing in on Him as He made His way to the man’s house.  It doesn’t take much imagination to “see” that the going was s  l  o  w.

Then the story changes direction…quickly.  A woman, who may have been desperate to receive healing from uncontrollable bleeding, managed to touch the fringe of the cloak which Jesus was wearing…and the bleeding stopped!  (Luke 8:43-44)

Jesus stopped and asked a pointed question, “Who is the one who touched Me?”
(Luke 8:45)

And bless his heart, Peter stated the obvious, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing in on You.”  (Luke 8:45)
Jesus came right back at Peter, “Someone did touch Me, for I was aware that power had gone out of Me.”  (Luke 8:46)

What was different for this woman from the many reaching out to touch Jesus?
1st – Jesus asked “Who” had touched Him.
2nd – Jesus told Peter publicly that He had felt power leave Him.
3rd – This woman had been hemorrhaging for twelve years, she would have been ostracized from society and she really did not want to be publicly singled out, but that is just what Jesus did.  (Luke 8:47)
4th – this woman was truly frightened to the point she was trembling when she fell down before Jesus and told Him what she had done and how she had received immediate healing.  (Luke 8:47)
5th – Jesus called her “Daughter”.  (Luke 8:48)
6th – Jesus said that it was her faith which had given her healing and not His clothing.
(Luke 8:48)
7th – Then Jesus also told her a wondrous command “go in peace.”  (Luke 8:48)

The woman would not have to continue to spend her money, her time or her energy searching for remedies for the uncontrolled bleeding.  She was healed!  Her faith was in the power of Jesus to heal and He blessed her with public commendation!

What is claiming your money and your time as you search for remedies for a very real need in your life?

Faith in Jesus to give you healing may come through the medical profession.  The key is faith in Jesus’ power to give healing.  It is up to Him how He chooses to do that, for He is God!
