Fear of Jesus’ Power
A Man’s Condition – Changed or Unchanged?
(NASB) Luke 8:37 “And all the people of the country of the Gerasenes and the surrounding district asked Him to leave them, for they were gripped with great fear; and He got into a boat and returned.”
Because a demon-possessed man had been delivered from many demons, because a herd of pigs ran over a cliff into the waters below, because they were inhabited by demons, because of Jesus’ power…the people were “gripped with fear”.
What causes you to fear?
When a person is radically changed by the living Lord Jesus Christ do you fear because it took a power far beyond any you possess?
When a livelihood is affected due to faith in Jesus, does that grip you with fear?
What causes you to fear?
Followers of Christ…
(Amplified) 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity [of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear)…”
Fear does not come from God. [But you may say we are to fear God! Yes, we are; however, this definition of fear is being reverent and honoring Him because He is God.]
What else can we know about what God desires?
(Amplified) 2 Timothy 1:7 “…but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.”
Followers of Christ…
You have been given God’s spirit of power, and love and a sound mind (calm, well-balanced), He has given you the power to be disciplined in your life-style and wonder of wonders, and He has given you self-control!
A Man’s Condition – Changed or Unchanged?
A demon-possessed man’s condition was changed by Jesus.
He did not fear Jesus’ power for it had changed his life…
What about you?
Do you choose, this moment, to yield to Jesus’ power to change your life?
