The Importance of Parables
(NASB) Luke 8:4 “When a large crowd was coming together, and those from the various cities were journeying to Him He spoke by way of a parable:”
A parable can relate to many people from every background…from those who are homeless to those who live in mansions and palaces.
Parable: A simple story illustrating a moral or religious lesson. Most of the time a parable will illustrate one main point.
Jesus taught in parables but not everyone who heard Jesus understood the point of the word picture.
How can we understand God’s words pertaining to our lives? Before reading Scripture, we can ask the God of the Bible for clarity and understanding. God the Holy Spirit unlocks the doors of understanding. At times a godly sermon, a song or hymn which uses God’s words, teachings which are true to God’s word, gives insight into the meaning of Scripture.
God’s word is a mine of great riches…a treasury filled with the finest and costliest of gems. Dig deep into God’s word…do you do that each day?
How can a parable which Jesus told have meaning in the 21st century? Most people live in urban areas, not on a farm or in the country. The truth of parables is universal and applies to all people…no matter where you live or what you do for a living.
Do you desire to grow and mature as a follower of Christ? If your answer is ‘Yes!’ then “listen” carefully to the words Jesus spoke. The truths He gave us over 2,000 years ago are still true today. God’s words are eternal and have eternal meaning. Whosoever hears and responds to His message of truth is blessed indeed.
Jesus told a parable about a Sower of seed:
(NASB) Luke 8:5 “The sower went out to sow his seed…”
(NASB) Luke 8:11 “Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God.”
To be continued…The parable of the Sower will be considered this week.
By Listening to Jesus…By Responding to His teachings…You will be Blessed!
