Jesus had been invited to dinner by a Pharisee. While He was reclining at the dinner table, a woman entered…
(NASB) Luke 7:37-38 “And there was a woman in the city who was a sinner; and when she learned that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster vial of perfume,
38 and standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and kept wiping them with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume.”

What was the woman’s intention? Wasn’t it to come to Jesus and anoint His feet with her perfume?

What were probably the woman’s unintended acts? Her tears wetting the feet of Jesus, those very tears could be humiliating. To wipe away her tears from Jesus’ feet, she used her unbound hair. Then she kissed the feet of Jesus (to kiss another’s feet is to bow very low and then not consider the humiliation of such an act). Her probable intention was to anoint Jesus’ feet with her perfume…an act of humility in itself.

With what attitude do you and I approach the Living God of the Bible?
How low do we bow before our Savior and LORD?

Do we feel humiliated by kneeling before Jesus Christ?
Or do we approach our Lord Jesus Christ with humility…acknowledging that He is far greater than we ourselves?

This woman was a known sinner, and so are we! She bowed low at the feet of Jesus, do we? Do we, like the woman, weep out of love for Him Who died for us? Do we, like the woman, come before Him in humility?

How do you and I approach Jesus?
Are we humiliated OR do we come to Him with humility?
