(NASB) Luke 7:35 “Yet wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”

Wisdom…how does the Bible define wisdom?

The Beginning of Wisdom
(NASB) Psalm 111:10 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments;
His praise endures forever.”

The Definition of the “fear of the LORD
(NASB) Malachi 2:5-6 “My covenant with him (Levi – see verse 4) was one of life and peace, and I gave them to him as an object of reverence; so he revered Me and stood in awe of My name.
6 ‘True instruction was in his mouth and unrighteousness was not found on his lips; he walked with Me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many back from iniquity.”

The “fear of the LORD” is to revere Him and stand in awe of His name (His name is not to be taken lightly or used blasphemously).  Only words of truth are to be spoken and not words of unrighteousness (what we think and speak are revealing).  We are to walk with the LORD in peace and uprightness and we are to work with Him to turn many back from sinning.

So!  “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.”
There are two kinds of wisdom: earthly wisdom and Godly wisdom.

Earthly wisdom
(NASB) James 3:15-16 “This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic.
16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.”
What thoughts do you “pet” or keep well hidden?  Are you filled with jealousy and selfish ambition causing disorder (do you ‘stir the pot’ of dissension)?

Godly wisdom
(NASB) James 3:17 “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy (without favoritism).”
Are your thoughts pure and peaceable (courteous), gentle and reasonable, filled with mercy toward others (compassionate), filled with the products of good fruits, unwavering and showing no favoritism or hypocrisy?

Do you lack wisdom?
(NASB) James 1:5-6 “But if any of you lacks wisdom let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.”
