You Hypocrite! Judge Yourself First!
Jesus did not mince words – He did not say something to be ‘politically correct’. He never apologized for saying the truth, for He only spoke truth.
(NASB) Luke 6:41-42 “Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that in is your own eye?
42 ‘Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.”
Oops! How many times am I critical and judgmental of another? Jesus calls me a hypocrite and rightfully so. I am guilty! How about you?
Why do you and I see so clearly another’s fault(s)? Is it perhaps because we are also guilty of the very same things.
No wonder Jesus stated “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.” (Luke 6:37)
What we judge and/or condemn in another – that is what we also do!
What are some of the “reasons” we come up with in order to judge another’s words, actions and/or motives?
1- ‘They’ need to be taught a lesson!
2- ‘They’ are wrong and need to be corrected!
3- You can supply other “reasons”…
What has Jesus said about our taking on the task of correcting another of our peer group? “You hypocrite”!
What does Jesus tell us to do before we take on the task of being judge and jury of another? “…first take the log out of your own eye…”
Judge yourself, examine your self first!
What would happen if we stepped back and examined our own words, actions and motives before we “slammed” another?
What if we would not say those hurt-filled words of condemnation before we examined our own motives for saying such things? Even thinking those things of another?
In fact, Jesus has said that my faults are like a log compared to a speck of sawdust in another’s life.
So, are Jesus’ words true of you? If so, what action will you take?
