Retaliation – Replaced by Love
Following Christ is not always easy…He gives hard things for His followers to do…consider the subject of retaliation:
Retaliation for a wrong against your person…if someone hits you, consider carefully how you should respond…
Retaliation for being sued…consider carefully how you should respond…
Retaliation for being robbed…consider carefully how you should respond…
Retaliation – Replaced by Love
Followers of Jesus are to be different from those who do not know Him…our actions, motives and words are witnesses to our faith in Him.
We are set apart (holy) to be ambassadors for Christ in the culture in which we live.
(NASB) Luke 6:29-30 “Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.
30 Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.”
If you have been abused, robbed, taken advantage of…how do you respond? Are we to let ourselves be abused, robbed, taken advantage of? I don’t believe Jesus is telling us that. Rather, we need to consider carefully how we are to respond in each situation.
One thing is clear; resentment has no place in the life of a believer in Christ Jesus. And neither does retaliation.
What had Jesus said:
(NASB) Luke 6:27-28 “But I say to you who hear, love our enemies, do good to those who hate you,
28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”
Retaliation – Replaced by Love! But consider carefully how you will react and respond:
Love, Do Good, Bless, Pray…
How can you put into action love for your enemies this day?
What can you do which would be doing good to those who hate you?
How can you bless those who curse you?
How will you now pray for those who have mistreated you?
