Love, Do Good, Bless, Pray…this is what Jesus said to His disciples and He is saying it to His followers today.

Following Jesus means a sacrifice of what we want and what we do in order to do what He wants us to do.  There may be a BIG difference!

What was Jesus talking about?
(NASB) Luke 6:27-28 “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”

Jesus does not give any “wiggle room” or “reasons” for us to ignore His instructions.

Perhaps you want to argue:
‘But Jesus, You know who my enemies are, they are not nice people, they are vicious, retaliatory, bent on destroying lives, and You want me to love them?’
Jesus: “love your enemies”

‘But Jesus, You want me to do good to those who truly hate me?  They not only don’t like me they REALLY hate me and want to destroy me.’
Jesus: “do good to those who hate you”

‘But Jesus do you want me, actually want me, to bless those who curse me?  They throw their words at me and discredit me every chance they get.’
Jesus: “bless those who curse you”

‘But Jesus, surely You don’t mean what You say!  You want me to pray for those who mistreat me and have an agenda which is in opposition to You?
Jesus: “pray for those who mistreat you”

Many times Jesus commands His followers to travel a difficult road…a road which requires sacrifices, and absolute dependence on the living God of the Holy Bible.

Our enemies are like who we once were.
Who has loved you, even when you thought of them as your enemy?
Who has done good to you when you hated them?
Who has blessed you when you cursed them?
Who has prayed for you when you have mistreated them?

God’s love is sacrificial love for us and He expects His followers to give that kind of love to our enemies…no matter who they are

Love, Do Good, Bless, Pray
