The Pharisees and their scribes were growling and grumbling in low voices to Jesus’ disciples…not Jesus Himself.  Grumbling comments meant to undermine, casting doubts in the minds of Jesus’ disciples.  The religious leaders were undermining Christ’s words and works with unkind (and untrue) remarks.  How did the disciples respond or react?

Scripture does not say. But what we are told:                                                                                                                                                                                        (NASB) Luke 5:31-32  “And Jesus answered and said to them, ‘It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick.
32 ‘I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.’”

Jesus continues to call sinners to repent.
How do you classify yourself?  Are you already “good enough”, a person who has never done anything too bad, a person who is right most of the time?  Then Jesus did not come to call you!  You have decided you don’t need Jesus…you are already “just fine”.  But are you?

Jesus came to call those who do not measure up to God’s standards.  Do you?  Do you measure up to the high and lofty standards of purity and holiness according to God’s own Person?  Then if you do not, Jesus has come to call you to repent before the Lord God Almighty.

January 3, 2013.  A new year has begun on the calendar…what kind of year has it started out for you?  Perhaps you need to think, really think, about how God sees you…are you righteous in your own eyes?  Or are you a person who needs to ask God’s forgiveness and ask Him to save you through belief in His Son?

Are you Self-Righteous or Repentant?

Repentance leads to being righteous before the living God of the Holy Bible…for then it is the righteousness of Christ in those who turn and follow Him.

Repentance then righteousness.
