Jesus went to His hometown of Nazareth and announced a stunning message in the synagogue on a Sabbath.  When the scroll was given Him, He opened to the prophet Isaiah and read what had been prophesied many hundreds of years earlier concerning Messiah.

(NIV) Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.’
20Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down.  The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, 21and he began by saying to them, ‘Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.’”

What wondrous news!  Scripture was fulfilled concerning Messiah!
The Scripture which Jesus stood and read was from Isaiah 61:1.
The Spirit of the Lord was on Him! (Jesus had the Spirit of God come upon Him at His baptism and John the Baptist had witnessed this event…Matthew 3:16; John 1:32).

As Jesus read these momentous words “he has anointed me” He was proclaiming God’s anointing Him for this ministry.  He had been authorized, approved, consecrated for a specific work.

What had He been anointed to do?  To preach the good news to the poor!  (All of us are poor in comparison to the riches of God.  We need to hear and respond to God’s Good News which has come through Jesus Christ.)

Today, this very day, Jesus is continuing to “preach the good news” to you, to all who will hear and respond to His Good News.  The riches of being forgiven, the riches of having Jesus as your Savior, the riches of being loved by God and one day to meet Him face to face.  Good News indeed!  Jesus is living in heaven and will one day return for all who believe in Him.

Do you believe in Jesus?  If not, why not?

Scripture has been fulfilled through the living Lord Jesus Christ…and will continue to be fulfilled until all of God’s words are completed concerning Messiah Jesus.

Good News! Jesus anointed by the Holy Spirit of God to preach…

Good News!

Scripture fulfilled…for you!
