Jesus had been led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit of God to be tempted by the devil (See Matthew 4:1).

(NASB) Luke 4:5-6 “And he led Him and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said to Him, ‘I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.”

Does this surprise you?  This world is the domain of Satan.  He is the present ruler of this world.  One day, God will judge the world and at that time Satan will be cast out.           (See John 12:31)

Of what can the followers of Christ know?
(NASB) 1 John 5:18-20 “We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.
19 We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ.  This is the true God and eternal life.”

It is the Lord Jesus Christ Who gave Himself for our sins.  He has rescued us from this present evil age according to the will of our God and Father.  (See Galatians 1:4)

Today, how are the followers of Christ to confront and combat the evil one?
Ephesians 6:10-18 is the armor of God for those who love and obey the living God.  It is God’s mighty power.  It is God’s armor that we must put on to stand against the devil’s schemes.  Our power is nothing…we need the strength of God’s might.

Our struggle is not against people but against the rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

God’s armor will enable us to stand our ground.  Take a firm stand with God’s truth buckled around your waist.  Put on the breastplate of righteousness and put on your feet the readiness of the Good News of peace to withstand your enemy.  Your shield is faith in the Lord Jesus and that is how to extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one.

Take the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit (the word of God) and pray!  Pray in the Spirit in accordance with God’s word of truth.

We live in this present evil world which is Satan’s domain; however, we are not unequipped to do so.  Followers of Christ, put on God’s armor!  Stand firm!  Be on the alert and persevere!

You are not alone; God is in you, with you and for you, follower of Christ!
