Often when we sin, it is to fulfill a need.  The need may not be sinful, but how that need is filled may be sinful.

Jesus had been led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness and for 40 days He fasted from food.  When our bodies are deprived of our needs, our point of resistance is at its lowest.  The devil used this opportunity to tempt Jesus to use His creative powers to fulfill His physical need of food.

(NASB) Luke 4:3-4 “And the devil said to Him, ‘If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.’
4 And Jesus answered him, ‘It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE.’”

It is God’s provision for our needs which we must trust when we are tempted by the devil to supply our need apart from God.  The Lord God told the people of Israel why they were given manna in the wilderness for 40 years:
(NASB) Deuteronomy 8:3 “He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.”

Jesus overcame this temptation of the devil by quoting Scripture.  He was not swayed by the tempting solution to solve His physical hunger apart from God.

When you are tempted, what Scripture do you use to overcome?  One Scripture is:
(NASB) 1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”

You also can say, “It is written…”!

You also can overcome over temptation.

You also can trust God to supply your needs.
