A Question We Should Ask the Lord
John the Baptist had questions asked of him from the crowds which came to him at the Jordan River. These questions from three different sets of people were essentially the same question after John’s message of warning and the need for repentance. “What shall we do?” (See Luke 3:10-14)
Those who responded to the message of warning of God’s coming wrath were convinced of their need to change…“What shall we do?”
John answered the first group’s question with “The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise.” (Luke 3:11)
The second group was the tax collectors, and John told them “Collect no more than what you have been ordered to.”
The third group were the soldiers (some commentator’s believe that these were Jewish soldiers) and John said to them, “Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages.”
What do you need to do because you really want to change and become more like Christ?
Don’t all followers of Christ need to listen carefully to God’s word and then do what He says to do?
The following are suggested passages of Scripture from among many you can choose:
Romans 12; 1 Corinthians 13; Galatians 3; Ephesians 4; Ephesians 5; Ephesians 6.
Please add more to this list as you seriously and prayerfully consider what God tells you to do…ask God for insight into His words, then strength to do what He says. Much of it sounds so simple…and it is…however, you can know that there will be a cost involved.
Jesus said:
(NASB) Luke 9:23-24 “…If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
24 ‘For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.”
What must you do to please the God of the Bible?
What do God’s words say for you to do?
For some, it is to receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, then follow His words in obedience.
For others, it will to recommit your life to Him and follow where He leads you, out of love for Him and obedience to Him and His word.
