Establishing Truthful Narrative
Dr. Luke carefully compiled “an account of the things accomplished among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning…so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.” (See Luke 1:1-4)
Dr. Luke named historical people in power in Rome, Jerusalem and Judea. Political positions, religious positions…important people in history.
Political positions of power: Tiberius Caesar (during his 15th year in power), Pontius Pilate (governor of Judea –Rome’s man in power), Herod (tetrarch of Judea), his brother Philip (tetrarch of Ituraea and Trachonitis) and another brother, Lysanias (tetrarch of Abilene).
Religious positions of power in Judea: Annas, father-in-law to Caiaphas…both men served as high priest in Jerusalem.
Dr. Luke established his truthful narrative with historically accurate facts which anyone can check, even today.
The Bible gives names, positions of people and events; thereby establishing the truth of what is said. The Bible is not “made up” of myths. The Bible does not say things to make people feel good (although much of God’s word does that). The Bible does not state things to justify anyone’s actions. The Bible is not fiction.
There are many good authors who write great stories which they have “made up” even if based on true events. Not so the Bible, it is Truth.
The Bible is historically accurate and worthy of your trust…for all that God tells us through His word is truth.
Historical facts can be checked out and found to be authentic and accurate. Dr. Luke was going to introduce a Very Important Person to his readers, one of whom they may not have heard. He established the historicity of John the Baptist’s time.

Teach me Your paths.
5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
For You I wait all the day.’
