Offended?
Joseph and Mary had been anxiously looking for Jesus…
He was L…O…S…T…!
When they did find Him, after three fear-filled days, they were astonished! There He was, the 12 year old Jesus sitting among the learned teachers of the Law in the precincts of the temple in Jerusalem.
And being the mother, Mary asked the age-old question, “Son, why have You treated us this way? Behold, your father and I have been anxiously looking for You.”
(See Luke 2:48)
Mothers still ask that question, ‘Why are you treating me this way?’ These are the children they have given birth to or adopted, these children whom are loved and have been taken to their hearts. Those children, whom they have nurtured, loved, protected, encouraged, disciplined…and the list goes on.
Mothers and fathers can become offended by their children’s choices. Perhaps parents are even offended by a child’s choice of becoming a follower of Christ.
Is there something you need to talk with your parents or children about, which you have been putting off? Have you told them of your love for them and your love for the Lord Jesus? There may be a cost involved…but God knows all about that!
What do you need to say?
There is always the possibility the one(s) you want to talk with have died, you can always talk with the living God…He is always available to hear your hurts and to give you healing for those relationships you now have no way to bridge.
Offended? Is it better to offend a parent or child because of your becoming a follower of Christ? Or to offend God Who has given you salvation and redemption through His Son?
(NASB) Luke 9:23 “…‘If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”
