Simeon was a righteous and devout man of God.  He waited for the consolation of Israel, for God had promised him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
(See Luke 2:25-26)

The Holy Spirit of the living God had led him to go to the temple.  Joseph and Mary had brought baby Jesus to the temple to carry out the custom of the Law of God.
(See Luke 2:22-24, 27)

When Simeon saw the baby, he knew that this Child was God’s answer for salvation.
(NASB) Luke 2:28-32 “then he (Simeon) took Him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 ‘Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace,
According to Your word;
30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation,
31 Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
32 A LIGHT OF REVELATION TO THE GENTILES,
And the glory of Your people Israel.”

Simeon recognized God’s purpose for the Child Jesus.  Have you recognized God’s purpose for Jesus in your life?

Simeon understood that the Christ would provide salvation for all peoples, Gentiles and Jews.  Have you understood salvation for you?

Simeon recognized salvation because the Holy Spirit of God showed him.  Have you recognized salvation for you?

Followers of Christ, salvation is but the first step: Christ’s gift of salvation in your life.

Are you growing and maturing as you walk the life of faith in Jesus the Christ?

Recognizing salvation is to know, to understand more today than you did yesterday, of God’s salvation found only in the Lord Jesus Christ.
