Who was Simeon?
(NASB) Luke 2:25 “And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.”

This man, Simeon, walked with the Lord.  Have you ever desired to have that kind of interaction with the Living God?
Simeon was actively looking for the consolation of Israel.  [To consol is: to cheer in time of grief, defeat, or trouble; to comfort; to solace.]  Simeon was looking with expectation for the Christ to be that kind of person.

How can we know that Simeon was actively looking?
(NASB) Luke 2:26 “And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.”
(The Greek word ‘Christ’ is the same as the Hebrew word for ‘Messiah.’)

So many times people have preconceived misconceptions of what they think God is going to do or what the meaning of what He has said in His Holy word, the Bible.

The religious leaders of Israel had preconceived misconceptions of what Messiah would do when He came…they believed that He would come as a take-charge warrior king and put the Romans to rout.
Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53 are two chapters, among others, which tell of the suffering of Christ on the cross.  What a contrast to what was expected!

Simeon was waiting on the Lord to show him the Lord’s Christ.  Did he have any idea that Messiah would come as a baby?  We don’t know.  We do know that he was expecting to know the Christ when the Lord would show him.

How do you approach the living God?  Do you approach Him with preconceived misconceptions?

(NASB) Psalm 25:4-5 “Make me know Your ways, O LORD;
Teach me Your paths.
5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
For You I wait all the day.”
