In the blackness of night the glory of the Lord shown around shepherds in a Bethlehem field.  An angel of the Lord spoke to them as they were guarding their sheep.  What a picture!  The light of God’s glory, stupendous, splendiferous news of Great Joy ~ a Savior had been born.  How would the shepherds know this Good News was true?  They would find a baby wrapped in cloths lying in a manger.  Newborn babies are not found in mangers!  And angels do not announce their birth!

As if that were not enough, God did something else totally unexpected:
(NASB) Luke 2:13 “And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,”

A multitude of angels sent to a mere handful of shepherds – a multitude is a great number, perhaps too large for the shepherds to have been able to count.  Isn’t that like the living God, to send His multitude of messengers from heaven to a mere handful of shepherds?  The message was of that great an importance.  It was then and it is now.

A large choir is wonderful to listen to; can you imagine what a multitude of heavenly host singing would have sounded like?  Talk about surround sound!
A heavenly host (too numerous to count) suddenly appeared – suddenly their voices filled the quiet of the night.

(NASB) Luke 2:14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”

God was, and is, glorified in the birth of His one and only begotten Son…and what a birth announcement He gave!

What are you doing with this greatest of all birth announcements?
Have you received it and then told others?
