Zacharias had been silent, unable to speak for over nine months.  Not one word passed his mouth.  When the angel Gabriel had told him a son was going to be born in Elizabeth and Zacharias’ old age, he did not believe…and for this reason he was silenced.            (See Luke 1:19-20)

Then on the day of circumcision Zacharias’ mouth was no longer closed.  He had written that the baby’s name was John.  The people at that ceremony were astonished at the name…why it was unheard of, giving a baby a name not in the family!  But Zacharias had learned his lesson of unbelief well and he was obedient to God’s message.

(NASB) Luke 1:64 “And at once his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he began to speak in praise of God.”

Zacharias’ words exposed his heart thoughts – the very first words out of mouth were praise, the praise of God.

How do you respond to God after a prolonged time of being denied?

A heart and mind, motives and purposes are exposed when we open our mouth.

Your words and mine expose what we believe and what we think.

Memorizing God’s word is to think about what pleases God.
Do your words and actions honor and praise Him?

(NASB) Psalm 100:1-5 “SHOUT JOYFULLY to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Serve the LORD with gladness;
Come before Him with joyful singing.
3 Know that the LORD Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving
And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
5 For the LORD is good;
His lovingkindness is everlasting
And His faithfulness to all generations.”
