Being a Godly Parent
Many years had come and gone for Elizabeth and Zacharias…years of grief because they had no children. (Perhaps you know this kind of heartbreak…trusting the LORD God in your circumstances may mean sacrifice of dreams – even dreams which are good.)
Godly parents are those who love the Lord Jesus Christ and follow His ways. A movie which shows the growth of a father and exemplifies an excellent role model for being a godly father is “Courageous”. It takes courage for Moms and Dads to live morally upright lives in an immoral world.
(NASB) Ephesians 6:4 “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”
To be a godly parent – doesn’t that mean we need to be a godly child of the living God? To be a godly example to children – is to live a godly life. Your speech, your actions, your motives; all reflect your walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.
(NASB) Ephesians 5:1-2 “THEREFORE BE imitators of God, as beloved children;
2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.”
Zacharias and Elizabeth did not let the disappointment or bitterness of not having a child come between them and God…for they continued to live a righteous life. (See Luke 1:6)
In God’s compassion, He knows your deepest desires:
(NASB) Psalm 103:13-14 “Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
14 For He Himself knows our frame;
He is mindful that we are but dust.”
