Living a God-pleasing Life
Doctor Luke is careful to give names and times to his documented account of the Good News of Jesus Christ. He established the time frame for the following account of Zacharias and Elizabeth by beginning with “In the days of Herod, king of Judea…”
(NASB) Luke 1:5 “…there was a priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.”
(Zacharias and Elizabeth were both from the tribe of Levi…the tribe which served as priests in Israel.)
(NASB) Luke 1:6-7 “They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord.
7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in years.”
Were Elizabeth and Zacharias disappointed in not having a child? As their story unfolds we will know the answer to that question.
Being a follower of Christ is to be faithful in living a God-honoring and God-pleasing life – no matter the opposition, oppression or omission of our wants.
God’s word says “The righteous will live by faith.” (See Romans 1:17; Habakkuk 2:4)
Doing what God’s word says to do, living a godly life according to God’s word does not mean we will be blessed with a child. Even though this couple had no children, even though both were growing old – both remained faithful in living a God-pleasing life.
You and I also need to do that. No matter the opposition you may encounter in your country, your neighborhood; no matter the oppression you may be experiencing; no matter the omission of your wants – you and I are to live by faith in God.
Elizabeth and Zacharias were right where God wanted them – you also are right where God wants you as you live a God-honoring and God-pleasing life.
People from Canada, the Americas, Europe, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, the Orient, the Middle East, people from around the world ‘hit’ on this devotional. No matter where we live, no matter our circumstances when we live our lives according to God’s Holy Bible – we are right where God wants us.
You are encouraged to continue to live your life to please God, the living God of the Bible.
