Investigative Reporting
Today, the media is suspect…they are not trusted to tell facts without slanting those facts in ways the media want to happen. Integrity in reporting the news…how refreshing that would be!
When world news seems to be spinning out of control, where can anyone turn to find truth? People are searching for truth, their truth…what they want to believe. But, good reporters will report facts.
To be objective and to really find truth…turn to God’s word, the Holy Bible. God’s word is truth. All other ‘truths’ are to be compared to what God says. God does not lie…and He is to be trusted…His words are worthy of our trust, all of His words. When we start picking and choosing what we want to believe out of God’s word, we are rejecting God’s instructions, illustrations and illumination into the very mind of God Himself.
Doctor Luke investigated the history of Jesus Christ. He interviewed those who knew Jesus personally and those who were eyewitnesses of Jesus’ words and works…Mary (the mother of Jesus), the disciples (those men who walked with Jesus for about three years), those who had been given healing by Jesus Himself, and the list goes on.
(NASB) Luke 1:1-4 “INASMUCH AS many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us,
2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word,
3 it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus;
4 so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.”
Investigative reporting takes time – lots of time – to put the events into the sequence in which they occurred. Investigative reporting means travel…traveling to find those who were involved in the events; it also means interviewing the eyewitnesses. Investigative reporting demands careful listening and recording what is said, such reporting uses integrity and can be trusted.
Perhaps you will need to ask God for understanding of His truths…I know I do. As we read this report about Jesus, what He did, said, and accomplished, is to learn the teachings (doctrines) of attaining through Christ the salvation in the kingdom of God. (See Amplified Bible Luke 1:2) We also will learn about the doctrines of faith in following the Lord Jesus Christ as we consider Dr. Luke’s carefully investigated account.
(NASB) Psalm 119:129-130 “Your testimonies are wonderful;
Therefore my soul observes them.
130 The unfolding of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple.”
