Psalm 22 – the Suffering Messiah
As Jesus hung on that cross in the relentless heat of the sun, and then darkness covered the earth. It has been said that God the Father turned His back on His Son because the sins of the world (your sins) were on Jesus.
Jesus cried out the very words of Psalm 22:1 “MY GOD, my God, why have You forsaken me?”
Jesus did that for you.
Jesus was scorned, mocked, despised by the crowd as they looked on His naked, scourged body on the cross:
(NASB) Psalm 22:6-8 “But I am a worm and not a man,
A reproach of men and despised by the people.
7 All who see me sneer at me;
They separate with the lip, they wag their head, saying,
8 ‘Commit yourself to the LORD; let Him deliver him;
Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.”
Jesus did that for you.
Jesus’ body was exposed:
(NASB) Psalm 22:14-18 “I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint.
My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me.
15My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death.
16Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.
17I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me.
18They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.
Jesus did that for you.
Jesus finished all that was needed for your salvation…on the cross…and from the cross He cried out “It is finished!” and then He gave Himself up to death. (See John 19:30)
(Amplified) Psalm 22:31 “They shall come and shall declare His righteousness to a people yet to be born – that He has done it [that it is finished]!”
Jesus did that for you.
