The Importance of Christ’s Genealogy
Genealogies give a means of knowing ones ancestors and the power of accession to the rights of one’s inheritance.
Jesus’ genealogical line is traced back to Adam and ultimately God in the book of Luke and from Abraham in the book of Matthew.
In Genesis 11, the genealogical line of Abraham is given beginning with Shem, one of the sons of Noah. (See Genesis 11:10-32)
Sunday, April 1st is Palm Sunday for Christians around the world. The Passion Week of Christ begins. He entered Jerusalem in triumph on Palm Sunday many hundreds of years ago…the people were acclaiming Him as King and Messiah…wanting Him to take His rightful place on the throne of David.
And He could have…but didn’t. He had come to save His people from their sins and that meant He needed to become the perfect sacrifice for our sins. And He did. He finished that work on the cross by dying.
The Good News of His resurrection will be celebrated on Easter Sunday…His sacrifice accepted by God…and He lives today.
We need Jesus because it is His death, His resurrected life which is given as a gift to all who will receive it.
One day, Jesus will return from heaven as the King of kings and Lord of lords…and He will have the credentials to sit on the throne of David…His genealogical line has been recorded in the Old Testament and the New Testament.
Do you anticipate His return or do you dread it? Followers of Christ…watch for Him with joyful anticipation.
