The Sin of Anger
What did God say about murder? The sixth commandment tells us:
(Exodus 20:13) “You shall not murder.”
Why is murder so important to God?
(NASB) Genesis 9:6 “Whoever sheds man’s blood,
By man his blood shall be shed,
For in the image of God
He made man.”
Anger: what did Jesus say about anger?
(NASB) Matthew 5:21-22 “You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER’ and ‘Whosoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’
22 ‘But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says , ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.”
Anger: can result in being energized to brutality.
Anger: drives mobs, drives ambitions…what drives you?
Anger: alienates, detonates, and annihilates.
Jesus equated anger with murder.
And then He gave a way to deal with anger toward another…
(NASB) Matthew 5:23-24 “Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,
24 leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.”
Anger needs to be dealt with…for it will be dealt with by God.
Anger is baggage which becomes heavier and heavier to carry. Are you carrying the unnecessary baggage of anger?
(NASB) Ephesians 4:26 “BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger,
27 and do not give the devil an opportunity.”
Forgiveness is imperative…
(NASB) Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.”
