The word “therefore” is there for a reason, the reason(s) having preceded that word.  When you see it in Scripture go back to find out why the “therefore” is there for!

(NASB) Ephesians 5:1-2 “THEREFORE BE imitators of God, as beloved children;
2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.”

An “aroma” as expressed in the above verse is a pleasing fragrance.
For what reason(s) are you and I to imitate God?

Looking back to Ephesians 4:30-32:
*we are not to grieve the Holy Spirit of God
*we are to let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander be put away from us along with all malice.
*we are to be kind, tenderhearted and forgiving each other as God in Christ has forgiven you.

Therefore [for these reason(s)], imitate God!  Followers of Christ are God’s beloved children (Are you a child of God?).

We are to live in love as Christ has loved us.  (Are you living in this way?)
We are to live sacrificially as Christ offered Himself as an offering and sacrifice for us ~ we are to live like that too!

How will you answer the following questions?

Am I leaving a smell of pollution and discord

as I walk through this day?

OR

Is there a pleasing fragrance of sacrificial love

left behind me as I live in this day?
