Escape By Turning to God
Cain had killed his brother Abel, but had been given the opportunity to repent by God Himself…Cain rejected God and His offer. Have you? (See Genesis 4:8-9)
Cain went out from the presence of the LORD. (See Genesis 4:16) Then Scripture tells of Cain and his wife having a child, a son named Enoch. Cain built a city and called it Enoch after his son. (See Genesis 4:17) Scripture then lists the generations to the fifth generation of Cain. Lamech was born and became the first bigamist. From his two wives came sons who became known as the fathers of nomadic tribes, music of lyre and pipe, and workers of bronze and iron. (See Genesis 4:19-22)
Lamech also was a murderer and justified his actions to his wives and declared that since Cain was avenged seven times, he would be avenged seventy-seven times. (See Genesis 4:23-24)
Cain’s choice of going out from God’s presence affected his off-spring. God was rejected by Cain and He was neither honored nor worshiped by Cain’s family.
How grieved God must have been by Cain and his choices. Was God surprised? I don’t think so. For the LORD God had promised Messiah immediately after Adam and Eve sinned. (See Genesis 3:15)
Sin always leads away from God.
It is only through Messiah, the Son of God, that there is a way of escape from our temptations so that we can have the power to endure.
(NASB) 1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”
Cain had been given the opportunity to escape the temptation to sin, but did not take it. Lamech only justified his actions/sins…how this must have grieved the LORD God also.
What temptation(s) are you facing today? Turn to God, for He is faithful and will give you a way of escaping that temptation.
You can escape…turn to the living God of the Bible for He has provided Messiah to save you from your sins and make a way of escape.
