Adam now knew…
The LORD God was walking in the garden in the cool of the day…looking for Adam and Eve. He didn’t see them so He called out “Where are you?” And Adam replied:
(NASB) Genesis 3:10 “He said, ‘I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.’ ”
Adam answered God – from his hiding place!
Was God’s voice filled with sorrow as He asked the next questions?
(NASB) Genesis 3:11 “And He said, ‘Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?’ ”
I believe that God already knew the answers to His questions. Rather He asked them to show Adam his sin. [(NASB) Genesis 2:16-17 “The LORD God commanded the man, saying, ‘From any tree of the garden you may eat freely;
17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.’ ”]
Adam now knew…fear of God due to his disobedience…the freedom of being without sin in God’s presence was gone.
Adam now knew…he was naked…he was now exposed.
Adam now knew…that he was ashamed in God’s presence…for he had done that which God had said not to do.
Adam now knew…the knowledge of good and evil.
Adam fell from not knowing sin into the shame, fear and exposure of sin.
Adam now knew what sin was, for he experienced all that sin’s baggage contains.
Adam fell from true freedom into the bondage of sin.
And the LORD God was there – in the coming days this devotional will consider the provision for people’s sins which God provided immediately.
Until you and I recognize our need of God’s provision through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, we continue in our sins. It is God’s mercy, grace and forgiveness which all of us need…on a continuing basis. It is through Christ Jesus alone that anyone can be saved from their sins and from God’s wrath against our sins.
Do you now know of your need of God’s provision for you?
Have you rejected His words of truth? ~ OR ~ Have you received God’s provisions by believing that Jesus died on the cross for you (and your sins)? Do you believe that Jesus was raised to life? This is proof indeed that the followers of Christ have been forgiven by the LORD God of their sins.
Do you now know of God’s forgiveness through the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior?
