Genesis chapter three is often titled “The Fall”.  The fall into sin, this is sin against God.

(NASB) Genesis 3:6 “When the woman saw that the tree (of the knowledge of good and evil) was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.”

First – the woman listened to the serpent who offered her the first temptation – to reject God’s warning and not listen to Him.  (See Genesis 3:1-5)

Second – the woman saw the fruit on the tree of the knowledge of good and evil – it looked good, real good.  What is tempting you today; it looks real good doesn’t it?

Third – the woman desired the fruit of that tree for it would make her wise – most everyone I know would like to be wiser. (How wise is it to think you know better than God and His wisdom in His warning?)

Listening, looking, desiring is temptation – it is not sin.

Fourth – then the woman did take the next step and it was sin – she took the fruit and ate it.

Fifth – the woman gave the fruit to her husband and he ate it – when one person sins they will offer the same temptation to another, to drag them into sinning with them.
