The Subtlety of Sin
Sin is subtle. Satan’s aim is to be worshiped. Satan’s aim is to have ‘one up-man-ship’ over God, the Creator, the LORD God Almighty.
Notice that Satan approached Eve, not Adam.
(NASB) Genesis 3:1 “NOW THE serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, ‘Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”
Satan’s question was purposely erroneous and subtle.
The LORD God had already said… “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely;
17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.’ ” (See Geneses 2:16-17)
Satan had no love for Adam nor for Eve…but God did. God had warned them. He had made them in His own image. (See Genesis 1:27)
In what area of your thinking has the subtlety of sin been established? What erroneous beliefs do you have about God? What misconceptions do you have about individuals with whom you have contact? What wrong thinking do you have about the events taking place in your nation and in the world?
One of the questions we need to consider in the 21st century: Do you ‘buy-in’ to internet fables which are available at the click of a mouse?
What do you and I need to do not to be trapped by wrong or erroneous thinking?
(NASB) Isaiah 55:6-11 “Seek the LORD while He may be found;
Call upon Him while He is near.
7 Let the wicked forsake his way
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
And let him return to the LORD,
And He will have compassion on him,
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.”
In the following two verses insert your name in place of ‘your’:
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,’ declares the LORD.
9 ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Seek the LORD; call upon Him – for He promises to have compassion and pardon.
