Red Letter Day

Attribute/Name of God ~ Holiness

Holiness is defined as “1. The state or quality of being holy; sanctity.”
Holy is defined as “1. Belonging to, derived from, or associated with a divine power; sacred. 2. Worthy of worship or high esteem; revered…”
The Holiness of God contains the idea of His sacredness.  Yet, He is approachable and available through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ.

(NASB) Revelation 4:8 “…HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME.”

(NASB) Exodus 15:11 “Who is like You among the gods, O LORD?
Who is like You, majestic in holiness,
Awesome in praises, working wonders?”

Think of the kings and queens, the potentates before whom many honor by bowing and kneeling before them.
Now think about the Lord Jesus Christ (Who is God the Son) before whom you and I will kneel in worship (at some point)…His majesty and holiness, His purity and His awesomeness will bring us to our knees.

(NASB) Philippians 2:9-11 “…God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

(NASB) Leviticus 11:44 “For I am the LORD your God.  Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy…”

To be set apart to serve the living God of the Bible…to be washed and cleaned up on the inside…to recognize the need for God’s cleansing forgiveness…to have confidence in Him and Him alone.  “…be holy, for I am holy…”

When our confidence is in ourselves or even in another…we will falter at some point.  Our confidence is to be in God, He is Holy, He is the LORD GOD.  Let your confidence be in Him alone.
Rely on His holiness, His purity, His sinlessness – for in Christ we have confidence that He has the power to give us what we need, when we need it.

Worship the LORD GOD because He is Holy.

[This devotional is celebrating its 5th anniversary on Labor Day (USA, September 5, 2011).  Its format has undergone changes over the years but the underlying truths of God’s word have not changed.]

God’s unchanging word can and does change lives…how is it changing your life?
