Depending on God’s Promises
God’s promises, many times, are conditional…He will do —- If we do —-.
He also gives warnings…He will do —- If we do —-.
God is dependable and He always does what He says He will do.
(NASB) Psalm 37:27-29 “Depart from evil and do good,
So you will abide forever.
28 For the LORD loves justice
And does not forsake His godly ones;
They are preserved forever,
But the descendants of the wicked will be cut off.
29 The righteous will inherit the land
And dwell in it forever.”
God’s criterion is succinct:
“Depart from evil and do good” – sounds simple, doesn’t it? To depart from evil is to turn to the LORD…turn not to self…turn not to possessions…turn not to doing good in order to earn your way into heaven…but to depend on the LORD!
The “LORD loves justice”.
The LORD “does not forsake His godly ones” (those whose faith is in His Son, the LORD’S plan is through His Son to bring us to salvation – See Zechariah 9:9).
The LORD preserves those who are His own.
The LORD warns that “the wicked will be cut off” (even their descendants who do not turn to the LORD and His way through Jesus Christ).
The LORD promises an inheritance of land to live in it forever.
To go to heaven, it must be through the Lord Jesus Christ…there is no other way in which God has provided entrance into heaven.
You have a clear choice, as do I…either we depart from evil and do good in the sight of God or we remain as those who will be cut off from His presence in eternity.
When we know Christ as our Savior and Lord, we are forever a part of God’s children. (NIV) John 10:29 “My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”
And all God’s people say…Amen!
For we are dependent on our God and His promises!
