A friend of mine has used the following illustration of how we are to follow Christ Jesus.  “My thought is God may have given us dogs to show us how to please the Master.”

Consider the following points:

- “A dog is loyal to his master” ~ a follower of Christ is to be loyal to his Master.

- “A dog wants to please his master” ~ how much do you want to please your Master?

- “A dog wants to be in his master’s presence at all times” ~ are there times when you do not want to be in your Master’s presence?

- “Times of separation can cause great anxiety and when reunited, the dog will jump up and down with pure joy; his physical body barely containing the joy he feels” ~ how do you react to having time alone with God?

- “A dog trusts his master and will even go into areas of danger with and for him” ~ how does your trust in your Master show in your actions?

- “A dog allows his master to train (shape and mold) him” ~ as you read God’s word, are you allowing your Master to train you?

- “A dog who has accepted training will wait patiently for the master’s command” ~ how patient are you as you wait for the LORD’S command?

- “When confused, a dog will look into the master’s eyes for direction” ~ are your eyes on God and His word when you are confused?

- “A dog who has accepted training will obey instantly on command” ~ quick responses to God are important for your eternity and/or someone else’s.

- “A dog will lay down his life for his master” ~ there are people laying down their lives for their Master today somewhere in the world…are you one of them?  If not, are you praying for them?

- “A dog loves the master’s family” ~ how are you showing love for your Master’s family?

- “A dog knows he is part of the master’s family” ~ being a follower of Christ is to be a part of the Master’s family…are you?
