A parable is an illustration and usually presents one main point.  It is a figure of picturesque speech to give hearers and readers an understanding of a point.

You may have heard it said that a picture is worth a thousand words.  A parable in the Holy Bible is a succinct ‘picture’ of a truth of God.
Most of the time, followers of Christ think of a parable as something Jesus used as a teaching tool…that is true.  However, there are other parables, even in the Old Testament.  The following is a ‘picture’ of why you and I need a Deliverer, a Savior.

(NASB) Ecclesiastes 9:14 “There was a small city with few men in it and a great king came to it, surrounded it and constructed large siege works against it.”

The world is represented by the “small city” which has been surrounded by evil.  The “great king” represents Satan and his power against the world.  He indeed has laid siege works of deceptions, lies and immorality around our lives.  Think about governments, leaders, and the unbelief in God which is prevalent today throughout the nations of the world.
Unbelief can be found in today’s music, the arts, governments and even in many churches.

Do not be mistaken, Satan is powerful, BUT he is not All-powerful (only God is Omnipotent).
Satan does have understanding, a knowing of many things, BUT he is not All- knowing (only God is Omniscient).
Satan is present in the world today, BUT he cannot be in all places at the same time (only God is Omnipresent).
