The Fruit of the Spirit…Gentleness (Part 1)
(NASB) Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
Dictionary definition of gentle: 1. Considerate or kindly in disposition; amiable; patient.
Jesus said to His followers:
(NASB) Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
29 ‘Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.
30 ‘For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.’ ”
Being yoked with Jesus is to have Him alongside you, helping you to carry your burdens.
Jesus’ gentleness does not ‘baby’ you – His gentleness supports and strengthens you.
What burdens are you carrying today? Jesus invites you, this moment, to tell Him all about them, no matter what they are. Naming your burdens to the LORD is to obey Jesus’ command, ‘Come to Me’. He is considerate and kindly, He is patient…and He waits for you to turn to Him.
What things are dragging you down? According to the Amplified version Jesus’ rest is “(relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet)” for your mind, your emotions, your will (your soul).
Doesn’t that sound really good? Jesus’ rest is available…to you.
Jesus has the power, strength and knowledge to help you as you submit to Him and His gentleness.
