It was deep in the night and the Hebrew slaves were leaving Egypt.  Led by God and Moses, they were hurriedly leaving after Pharaoh had said, ‘Go’.

The angel of death had swept through the land of Egypt, leaving behind mourning for the first born son in every home who had died that night.  The angel of death ‘passed over’ the homes where the blood of a sacrificial lamb had been painted on the side posts and lintels.  All within those houses were spared from death at that time.  (See Exodus 12-15)

The fleeing Hebrews were led into a seemingly impossible situation…Pharaoh had (again) changed his mind and sent his army of charioteers to bring back their slave labor.  Then the LORD God did a marvelous miracle.  The waters stopped flowing, and the way of escape opened before the Hebrews…all the rest of that night they crossed over on a dry ground…as the last foot touched land on the opposite shore, the waters began to flow in a rush and the pursuing Egyptian army, which had reached the middle, was caught in the torrent and all were killed. (There is recent archeological evidence of chariots in those waters.)

Moses wrote a song commemorating that great salvation of the Hebrews in Exodus 15.

(NASB) Exodus 15:2 “The LORD is my strength and song,

And He has become my salvation;

This is my God, and I will praise Him;

My father’s God and I will extol Him.”

In what circumstances have you also experienced God’s salvation which saves you and protects you?

Moses acknowledged Who had saved him and the Hebrew slaves.  God was real to Moses, is He real to you?  Is the God of the Bible the God Who has saved you from dire circumstances given praise?

Moses was not going through a ritual or a religious exercise…he was extolling his God Who had saved him.  How often do you pray as if you were going through the motions of worship?

Heartfelt prayer acknowledges God in a personal way

because there is a personal relationship

with the personal God Who loves you.

(Amplified) Exodus 15:2

“The Lord is my Strength and my Song, and He has become my Salvation; this is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him.”
